I haven’t posted in the last two weeks, partially because I have been working on re-vamping my blog a bit and it took me awhile to figure out what I wanted to do and what stories I wanted to tell. So now after about a week of working on it a bit I am ready to show it off, although I don’t think I am quite done working on it yet. For now take a look at my new About page, as well as, pages about college and London and additional social media icons. On top of re-vamping this blog, I am also planning to expand my social media more, which means utilizing my Twitter, starting an Instagram account and relating my Pinterest and blog to one another (currently they probably look like they were created by two very different people). I also officially shut down my Tumblr. Although it was the home of my first blog I was never in love for the site and I hadn’t used it in months. Perhaps I will return at some point, but my account would have had to be entirely re-vamped anyway, so there was no point keeping it.
I’ve never taken a class on computer science, something I regret a bit. Sometimes it was to easy in college to just stick to what I knew instead of branching out a bit. My computer/social media/blogging skills are largely all self taught and I am slowly moving towards understanding web design and coding, but it will take me awhile. I am not ready to self-host a blog, but hopefully one day I can move towards that.
For the time being I am determined to slowly learn html and css. I started working on it today, and I managed to do some simple coding, but I also got a headache the likes of which I can’t remember having since I graduated college. I have never been good at learning other languages, its a skill I simply never developed and learning code feels a bit like trying to learn a second language, but I hope to get better at it. In the next week or so I hope to be able to add some of my custom code to my site to make it a little more “my own.” For now I am content to have figured out how to get the code to add additional social media icons on my site and fumbling around with some simple coding before trying it out on my blog and potentially destroying everything.
I also have some new ideas and plans for what to add to my blog, including recipes, book reviews and photography, so stay tuned!
In the mean time here’s a video that a Facebook friend posted while I was in the middle of trying to figure out coding today, which came at the perfect time!
Thanks for the video. I was trying to code in college but was afraid after I barely passed the final exam to continue on. I figured it wasn’t for me, but this definitely changed my mind.
Thanks, it definitely inspired me as well!
Great blog and post!
Thanks, your blog has some incredible photography!
Love the new look Rebecca! I’m going to attempt to learn code with Scott. He doesn’t know yet, but it’ll be fun. Learning a foreign language has always been a challange for me as well so I understand where you’re coming from. The one thing about code that is different is that we don’t have to speak it!
True, I hadn’t thought of that! It will make it a bit easier
