Spring is here. Its actually still pretty cold and raining and you definitely need a coat when your outside but its here! The birds are chirping and the robins are back from down south and before long the leaves will unfurl and the flowers will start poking up from the ground and it will all be completely magical. Spring is actually may favorite season. Everyone always talks about fall, but its never actually been a season I’ve enjoyed that much, because fall is more about death. The leaves start dying because they aren’t getting enough sunlight, the frost kills the flowers, the animals leave for warmer weather elsewhere.
Spring is about rebirth and new life, flowers, growth, baby animals. It will be my first time home for spring in years and I am really looking forward to it. I will never forget going to London two years ago at the end of March and how it was snowing when I took off from O’Hare, but it was already turning green and beautiful when I got to London and it was just another sign of how wonderful my trip was going to be.
I have been a bit disorientated over the past week. I am re-doing my room, which (as most home improvement projects do) is taking longer than expected, but its something I have needed to redo for quite awhile and I will be happy to be finished with it.
However, for now it means I’m sleeping on the couch and moving my stuff awkwardly around the house. I will be ready to get it finished because just like spring is happening outside, this change will be my own spring. Soon I will be finishing up this chapter at starting a new one (whatever that maybe) I am excited to start moving towards whatever is next for me, but I feel like I need a rebirth of sorts to do that. Hopefully changing my room from what it has looked like since I was 12 will be just the kick start that I need.
My parents started a tradition when my brother and I were little where we would bake a cake when we saw the first robin of the year. So today when I was running some errands (actually going shopping for this whole rebirth I am trying for) and I saw some robins I immediately stopped by the grocery store and picked up some ingredients. Behold this years spring (cup)cake!
I also made cookies, because one of my grandma’s favorite sayings is, “I like cookies better than cake.” When we gave her one she didn’t realize that I had baked them and said the cookie was burnt, even though it wasn’t. Then she felt bad and started giggling when she realized that she had insulted my baking. In the end though I think she liked them and said she would sneak back in the kitchen later and eat another one.

For the first week I was home, I slept in the guest room until we could take down the bunk bed that I’d had since I was nine. It feels like a completely different room now, and it was definitely a much-needed change, so I hope your new room will be a good change, too.
Also, I always always approve of baking. Your cupcakes look delicious and I want to eat one. (Even though I have eaten plenty of my own cupcakes today, too. And probably more than I should have…)
